Quick update on an article I previously published on Diary of a CEO. Back in January, I covered how the podcast was attempting to redeem its reputation by introducing a questionable, if well-intentioned, fact-checking system. Though I criticised the company’s arrogance in attempting to spin the measure as “trailblazing”, I also acknowledged that any meaningful effort to improve editorial standards was preferable to doing nothing. (You can read my original article here).
Sadly six months down the line, it appears as if podcast company really has learnt nothing from its medical misinformation scandal. Private Eye is reporting that the podcast recently welcomed back Thomas Seyfried for a new episode in July. For those with memories as short as Bartlett’s seems to be, Seyfried was the guest who, according to Podnews, argued that conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy are largely ineffective while a ketogenic diet offers a real means to beat cancer. Why you’d invite back the guest who spread such harmful misinformation on your platform seems a bizarre decision. Whatever the reason, Bartlett’s audience could be forgiven for concluding Diary Of A CEO continues not to take harmful disinformation seriously.
Anyway for the moment, that concludes this little update. As always, I eagerly await the day Diary of a CEO becomes genuinely “trailblazing” in its journalism and integrity. For the moment at least, it seems content to leave a great deal burning in its wake.
